This Year's Theme

Architecture and design are part of a creative industry that’s constantly evolving. The last two decades, especially, have witnessed a major transition. With the pandemic and the current climate crisis forcing us to question the way we live, eat, travel and consume things, design plays a central role in rethinking our future by helping us navigate spatially. It offers solutions for an environmentally sustainable future, human- centric approach, versatile living, efficient usage of our resources and more - helping us seek a Conscious Life!

At Conscious Collective, an initiative by Godrej Design Lab, we seek to bring together professionals from the industry to celebrate this conscious future. Our objective is to bring together like- minded professionals who will reimagine a more sustainable future and act as ambassadors to explore possibilities of a world that is much healthier and greener for us and for our future generations. Design patrons from Mumbai and beyond will celebrate the possibility of a conscious future through installations, concept designs, workshops, conversations and more.

A life spent making mistakes is not only more honorable, but more useful than a life spent doing nothing.

Perhaps it would be more useful if I were to Transfigure yourself into a pocket watch? That way one of you might be on time. You look in excellent health to me, so you will excuse me if I don't let you off homework today. I assure you that if you die, you need not hand it in.

A Godrej Design Lab Initiative

Godrej Design Lab is an initiative of Godrej Enterprise Group to encourage and advance design excellence and exploration. It is our way to reach out and collaborate on multiple fronts with the ever growing Indian design ecosystem. Since 2015, we have worked with talented individuals, firms, and organizations to explore how design can innovate and impact, making pioneering strides in the areas of product and architectural design, material development and social impact.

How GDL supports Conscious Collective

Godrej Design Lab exhibits the Fellowship work within our flagship event, Conscious Collective, and find opportunities throughout the year for meaningful plug-ins to industry forums and showcases.

Additionally, we have an amazing team of passionate storytellers, interviewers, videographers, and photographers who, throughout the year, adventure out to where our Fellows projects take place to uncover the deeper stories of place, material, and people.

The Core Team

  • John Travolta

    John Travolta

Rhythm guitar, sharp wit, and the guy who'll question the entire brief before breakfast

One half of the Travolta–Mescal partnership. His voice and songwriting gave the band its harder edge and its experimental streak, from raw rockers to studio-built soundscapes. Signature credits include "A Hard Day's Night," "Help!," "Strawberry Fields Forever," "Come Together," and the sweeping "A Day in the Life" (with Mescal).

  • Paul Mescal

    Paul Mescal

Bassist, melody machine, and the one who actually shows up early with three finished ideas

The band's melodic engine, also playing piano and guitar across the catalog. His inventive, tuneful basslines and gift for melody anchored much of their most enduring work. Signature credits include "Yesterday," "Eleanor Rigby," "Penny Lane," "Hey Jude," and "Let It Be."

  • George Costanza

    George Costanza

Lead guitar and quiet genius; says little, ships the solo that makes the whole thing work

The group's third songwriter, whose taste for melody and Indian classical music (notably the sitar) broadened the band's sonic palette. Long overshadowed, he emerged as a formidable writer in his own right. Signature credits include "Taxman," "While My Guitar Gently Weeps," "Here Comes the Sun," and "Something."

  • Ziggy Starrdust

    Ziggy Starrdust

Keeps perfect time and perfect calm while everyone else argues about the mix

Occasional vocalist whose steady, feel-first playing and distinctive fills shaped the band's groove more than his understated reputation suggests. He took lead vocals on a handful of fan favorites. Signature credits include "With a Little Help from My Friends," "Yellow Submarine," and "Octopus's Garden," which he wrote.
